B2B Website: JoCoPlants

For the Johnston County Nursery Marketing Association, we helped create an online marketplace for 27 farms in Eastern North Carolina.
The first step was to rename the brand JocoPlants. We created a logo and deployed it across many types of media, eventually including business cards, signage, apparel, email and association documents.
The website has several components including a page for each nursery (generated dynamically from a database) and an inventory of plants.
It is the inventory that is revolutionary in the industry and proved challenging to achieve.
JocoPlants commissioned a taxonomy of all the plants sold throughout the organization. A taxonomy is an official list naming each variety and species. In the end, it listed about 4,000 plants.
We created a “Master List” in Excel and distributed it to all the members. They filled in their inventory for each plant, including notes, sizes and price. Members uploaded their list to the new website, creating a master inventory of every plant available within the association. Members update their inventories at will.
Registered customers (wholesalers and plant professionals only) can login in, search for plants, build lists and get a quote with just a few clicks.
This Plant Inventory is a first for nurserymen in North Carolina, maybe the nation. It is a testimony to 27 farms working together to achieve a common goal and positions JocoPlants for the information age.
We also took over 5,000 pictures, documenting each and every farm in the association. It was great fun driving around the state and spending a few hours wandering around some beautiful farms and lovely small towns.
Work continues to expand the scope of the JocoPlants site, funded in part by a grant from the NC Department of Agriculture.
We’re really proud of this site. It’s an achievement of cooperation, inspiration, hard work and a little bit of faith. We look forward to beginning work on phase two of project.
