Hyperlocal Site: CaryCitizen

CaryCitizen is our own project. It’s a mash up of some of the hottest trends in Web 2010 – hyper-localism, community journalism, photography and video. By all measures, it has been wildly successful.
In less than a third of a year, our online news site for Cary has grown to more than 11,000 page views a month. We’ve recruited a management staff and have more than two dozen contributers.
CaryCitizen makes liberal use of social media. Our fan base on Facebook grows every week and numbers in the several hundreds, communicating our stories viraly across the community.
We’ve also baked in a Flickr photo group for Cary, a project we’d started two years ago. That group now has over 100 contributing photographers, generating a rich visual history of the town.
Our banner ads get 2.5 times the national average click through rate according to figures from Web Marketing Central.
CaryCitizen also hooks up with YouTube to syndicate our own original video content and other relevant clips about Cary.
