Twice a year, I troop to the garden store to pick up flats of flowers, containers of shrubs, mulch, fertilizer and the odd tool. That’s why it was such a great pleasure to produce a new website for Garden Supply Company.

It’s another WordPress project, with lots of nice photography and even a video. Audrey Pettit contributed to the content.

Thanks to Deborah and Keith Ramsey and all the folks at GSC for letting us get our hands dirty on the new site.

We just finished a new site for Schaffer-Rogers, super-star reps in film and television. Built on WordPress, the result is a tight, efficient, Class-A site.

Cary, NC – Here’s a site we just completed for a client who totally gets the power of a personal publishing platform.

Perry Schaffer and Corey Rogers have been pillars of the commercial production industry for more than a decade. In essence, they connect film directors with ad agencies for big-time commercial projects.

The goal was to create a platform for them talk about all the great work from their clients – Nike, Citroen, Publix and Virgin to name a few. Their directors have been nominated for Academy Awards, Cannes Lions (I’ve got one of those) and have been featured at SXSW. In short, Schaffer-Rogers are players.

The site had to be modern, interactive and polished. We chose WordPress.

Post Perry Post

They key to getting the most from social media is a stream of content.

Folks who think a website is an event – as opposed to a process – are sadly mistaken. Not so Perry and Corey.

They created 92 posts in less than a month during our beta period. When we launched, they had a full and complete site (not a ‘starter set’).

Even more impressive, they continue to create quality content post-launch. 8 posts in the last week. And it’s good stuff – original content, not scrapes from other sites or printed material republished on the web.

Am I surprised? Not at all. Perry founded the social portal Wheresspot for TV producers back in the late 1990′s. And it was Perry who turned me on to Twitter in the fall of 2008.

Corey balances Perry skills with a few mad tricks of his own. He’s an experienced user of Photoshop and HTML.

Between the two of them, they are the full package.

Prediction: they will do well with their new site.

Nuts and Bolts

Goodtree & Co. built the new site on WordPress (self-hosted). We skinned it with the Prolific theme.

After that, it was all ‘off-roading’ in a development sense.

We hacked the sidebars to deploy custom branding for each category on the site. We baked in Perry’s twitter feed and expanded the header. We changed the color of key site elements including CSS styles, ket graphic elements and even the JQuery carousel.

Perry & Corey were very specific about the level of ‘fit and finish’ they wanted for their new site. They challenged us. They reinvested in areas they felt needed more attention.

The result is a tight, efficient, Class-A site.

Is WordPress Right For You?

We can make WordPress do almost anything necessary for business communication.

We can use WP to dominate search. We can customize for e-Commerce, medicine, real estate and much more. We can use the platform to generate daily emails, post to Twitter or scrape your Twitter posts into your blog.

Not everyone is Perry & Corey. That’s why we also have a growing trade in “ghost posting.” A few months of regular, quality posts can make a world of difference to a business.

LOH has a long history of environmental reclamation and brown field restoration. Now they’re completing existing developments like Olive Chapel Park in Apex.

The challenge was to organize lots of homes, neighborhoods, regions and associated info into a cohesive site. We employed custom code throughout with liberal use of Flickr, YouTube, Tour Factory, Google Maps and WordPress.

Michael Kimsal was the lead programmer. Eric Revels was the art director. Mathias Linden managed the project for LiveOak.

We’ll tell you the big secret: it’s got actual content.

North Hills is a unique place. It has more local merchants than national chains. It has restaurants, not just fast food. It has underground parking.

It took vision to redevelop an old-skool mall into a modern urban village. In building a new web site for North Hills, we’ve tried to live up to that standard.

North Hills told us to focus on creating quality content. Each store, restaurant and spa has its own page, its own picture and descriptive text. After researching the category, it was surprising to find how few developments had this much information.

We’ve taken over 1500 pictures for the new site (our favorite is the flash panorama on the home page). Many thanks to the management and merchants at North Hills for all their help and patience. Special thanks also to North Hills Security.
